Rural Immersion Camps

YEAH's Rural Immersion Camp is a transformative journey designed to bridge the urban-rural divide by engaging college and university youth in authentic village realities.

Rather than relying on traditional classroom learning, the camp uses Participatory Action Research (PAR) and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools to turn research into a powerful mutual learning experience.

YEAH has been conducting Rural Immersion Camps for students and youth from various disciplines since 2014.

The Rural Immersion Camp follows a structured, collaborative process:

1

Immersion & Ground-Level Discovery:

Participants dive directly into rural communities, spending their initial days conducting transect walks, gathering oral histories, and facilitating comprehensive village and resource mapping activities alongside local residents.

2

Real-Time Social Analysis:

Alongside fieldwork, participants continuously synthesize their observations, building robust social analyses for each village with the guidance of the YEAH team.

3

Dialogue & Collaborative Problem-Solving:

Grounded in these analyses, youth groups engage in deep dialogues with the community to unpack systemic issues. Using tools like problem trees and body maps, they collaboratively isolate core challenges and design practical prototypes and action plans.

4

Community-Led Impact:

The journey culminates when participants present these community-vetted blueprints directly to local authorities and grassroots organizations, ensuring that fresh and young perspectives translate into meaningful, sustainable, and community-driven action.
